How I Went From a 1340 to a 1500 in 3 Months
My Story: You Have Time
Three months before my test date, I took my first full-length practice test and scored a 1340. I was pretty disappointed, but I knew I had time if I used it wisely. Three months later, I walked out of the test center with a 1500.
I'm telling you this because it's easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed. But don't be. The SAT isn't a test of genius; it's a test of patterns and preparation. If you're starting out with a score you're not happy with, know that you have more than enough time to achieve your goal.
The Only Resources You Really Need
The internet is flooded with SAT prep, and most of it is noise. I focused on a few high-quality resources and, most importantly, official practice material.
- For Reading & Writing: Penguin Test Prep on YouTube is fantastic for understanding the logic behind the questions. He teaches you how to think, not just what to memorize.
- For Math: The best resource is practice. However, Learn SAT Math is excellent for reviewing specific concepts. This video in particular is a goldmine for the Desmos calculator:
My Core Philosophy
Success on the SAT comes down to two things: consistency and calm.
- Do practice tests regularly. Use this website! It's filled with real tests, which is the best material you can get. Timed practice builds endurance and exposes your weaknesses.
- Don't burn yourself out. Review your mistakes, but don't spend hours drilling things you already know.
- Protect your sleep. Do not, under any circumstances, sleep late the night before the exam. A well-rested brain performs infinitely better than a tired one that crammed for an extra hour.
